Purpose: To offer an exchange of information, and educational platform, and to introduce evidence-based best practices in the areas of birthing and breastfeeding.

Background: In recent years, rates for natural births and breastfeeding in China have dropped sharply from decades before. Certainly the reasons can be many, and clearly there are still many practices in the areas of birthing and breastfeeding in China that are not mother-baby-friendly, are outdated, or based on non-scientific beliefs. In terms of infant health, breast milk is the gold standard infant food, and alert and active participation by the mother in childbirth can help mother and baby get breastfeeding off to a good start. We hope that by inviting high-level, well-known, internationally-recognized speakers who have made revolutionary achievements in their areas of expertise will catalyze positive change here in China. We advocate the adoption of evidence-based practices for the best health outcomes of today’s Chinese mothers and babies.

Participants:

We invite hospital directors, administrators, department heads, physicians, community health care providers, doulas, nurses, midwives, childbirth instructors, IBCLCs, lactation professionals, “cui ru shi” (traditional Chinese breast massagers), Chinese confinement nannies/postpartum midwives, confinement center staff, La Leche League Leaders. (Please note that this seminar is targeted to professionals as the information is highly technical in nature designed for healthcare providers who support breastfeeding mothers).

We Welcome Babies and Children at the Seminar

We will provide a play-mat and box of toys in the back of the room for you and your child to play with during the lectures.  A diaper-changing area will also be available onsite. And, as usual, breastfeeding in the room during the sessions is always welcome.

Babies in arms who are easily quieted meld right into all La Leche League meetings and seminars as nursing mothers are very sensitive to their needs for food and comfort. Older babies and toddlers from ages one to three are often more of a challenge. Although they too are comforted with breastfeeding, older babies tend to vocalize sweet baby sounds and toddlers can be both very vocal and very mobile.

In order to provide a quiet atmosphere for the speaker and attendees, please be aware of the happy baby sounds, crying, and toddler noises that can be disturbing to others. When this occurs, please leave the session and tend to your baby or child until your child is calm enough to re-enter with you. Sometimes just a few minutes of walking in the hallway or a change of scene will do wonders to calm a baby or child.

AMEDA® is where breast pumps are born and raised. Around 70 years ago, breast pumps made moms feel painful, exhausted and they didnt express milk effectively. A Swedish engineer Einar Egnellbegan to work on it in 1939. After years of research and hundreds of pump trials, Egnell created the first modern breast pump in 1942. His invention, the AMEDA® SMB Electric Breast Pump, was the first pump to be truly comfortable and effective. The pump suction and cycling parameters he developed continues to provide the standards by which breast pumps are judged today.

Everything AMEDA® does—breast pumps and products, breastfeeding education, and support for lactation professionals—reflects our passion for breastfeeding. AMEDA®’s products and services exist to help breastfeeding families.

Beyond providing the highest quality products for breastfeeding mothers, AMEDA® has made the full commitment to support and protect breastfeeding. Unlike other breast pumps manufacturers, AMEDA® adheres to the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes.
